| We
recommend that you take a buccal swab over any other sample type
due to their reliabilty. However we understand at times
you may wish to take samples discreetly and therefore other sample
types might be more helpful. You can click
here to read about discreet samples.
STEPS
for taking a Buccal (cheek) swab for a DNA test.
If you do not have DNA SOLUTIONS swabs (included in our
free kit), then follow these instructions:
1.
Label a paper-bag with name of the person to be tested Please ensure
the same information is written on the Sample Submission Sheet which
you should have already printed out, (click
here to print sample sheet).
2.
Take a brand new toothbrush from its packet gently rub the bristled
end on the inside of the cheek up and down for around 4 to 6 seconds
on the inside of the cheek.
Using the same toothbrush repeat again, on the inside of the other
cheek.
3. Instead
of the toothbrush you can use 2 cotton buds.
You MUST
cut the head of one side of the cotton bud so we KNOW which
side of the cotton bud contains the DNA!!
After you have cut the head of the cotton buds on one side, hold
the handles of 2 cotton buds in one hand and rub all 2 of the cotton
buds on the inside of the cheek at the same time. Rub up and down
firmly on the inside the cheek for around 8 seconds. Repeat on the
other side of the cheek.
4. Immediately place the swabs into the paper bag
or paper envelope (NOT a plastic bag). This will enable the swabs
to dry out and preserve the DNA. Dry swabs should last for several
months.
5. Seal
paper bag/envelopes and send, with sample information form and payment
to DNA Solutions Pty Ltd.
