DNA Paternity Legal Test

The process for a legal parentage test is much more lengthy and stringent than the process for a peace of mind home test. The entire process for a legal test, including organizing the paperwork and collections, having the sample collections done, review of
the paperwork, and processing the case typically takes approximately four (4) weeks. Please do not hesitate to contact us at any stage during testing to ask questions, obtain an update, etc. The process for a legal paternity test is detailed below, or you may contact us and we can discuss this process with you via telephone or live chat.

  • Call our customer service team. Identify that you wish to discuss legal paternity testing and you will be transferred to one of our team who is specially trained in the legal testing process.
  • At some point, you will need to decide upon a General Practitioner (GP) to do your collection and provide us with their name, address, and telephone number. You may tell us this when you first order your paperwork, or you may call at a later day to provide us with this information.
  • Once you provide us with the information for your desired GP, we will then contact the GP to ensure they are willing to do this collection. Assuming they agree, we will send the collection kit directly to the GP’s office.
  • Provide us with your name, address, and telephone number so that we can send your paperwork to you. If you are not in contact with the other party to be involved in testing, we can also send paperwork to that party. If this is the case, please be prepared to provide us with their name, address, and telephone number. Your paperwork will be sent from our London office within 1-2 days. If you do not receive your kit within a couple of weeks, please contact us to have the paperwork resent.
  • If you are comfortable ordering your kit online without discussing with our staff first, you may click on “Click to download your legal paperwork”.
  • While waiting for your paperwork to arrive, you can organize to get two (2) passport sized photos of each donor. These do not need to be actual passport photos, but should be of that general size and must be full frontal original colour photos with none of the facial features obscured.
  • You should wait approximately 1-2 weeks for the GP to receive the collection kit, and then contact the GP to make an appointment for your collection. VERY IMPORTANT: Arrange your appointment with the GP such that you will have time on the day of your collection, but before your collection, to have your Affadavit witnessed by a Justice of the Peace.
  • On the day of your collection, go to a Justice of the Peace and have your Affadavit witnessed.

  • Who is a Justice of the Peace?

    • A GP is NOT necessarily a Justice of the Peace
    • A police officer with a rank of Sargent or above is a Justice of the Peace
    • A solicitor/lawyer is a Justice of the Peace
    • A Public Notary is a Justice of the Peace

  • Once your Affadavit is witnessed by a Justice of the Peace, go to your GP for collection. The GP will do the collection (mouth swabs) and send all the paperwork (that you must take with you to your collection) and the samples directly to DNA Solutions Pty. Ltd.
  • Payment can be made via credit card (details can be entered on the paperwork or you can call us to give us these details) bank cheque, personal cheque or money order (take to collection and include it with the paperwork and samples to be returned to DNA Solutions Pty. Ltd.).
  • Upon receiving your samples and paperwork directly from the GP, our Sample Reception staff will review the paperwork and samples against our stringent guidelines. If there are any issues with the paperwork or samples, we will contact you. Please note that there may be a delay of up to ten (10) business days from the time your GP submits the samples until you hear back from us, as this process does take time.
  • Once we have received all the samples, paperwork, and payment for a test and they have been approved, we will begin processing your test which takes ten (10) business days.
  • Original hard copies of reports will be mailed to each adult party involved in the testing. Results will also be communicated via telephone to each adult party when testing is completed. The report will include statistics calculated for your particular case if the result is a match and should exceed 99.9%. If the result is a mismatch, it is 100% that it is a mismatch and the statistics are therefore not calculated nor reported.
