| The first DNA-based test was unveiled in Bourmeouth today, that can diagnose a range of diseases within 30 minutes is to go on trial in British hospitals. The DNA test can quickly pin down the cause of food poisoning, help farmers detect foot and mouth, and show if a woman is a carrier of the bacterium that causes chlamydia, a "silent disease" that can cause fertility problems. Yesterday, speaking at a conference in Bournemouth, Dr Mullis said DNA tests based on the method had huge potential because "you need to know what a disease is before you can do anything about it". |
